How Gavin’s Gifts Began

Gavin’s Gifts was formed when Gavin’s family and close friends came together with a shared goal: to turn support for Gavin into support for other families facing Batten Disease.

What started as a conversation about organizing a local 5K quickly grew into something bigger. As we learned more about the challenges families face after a Batten diagnosis, it became clear there was an opportunity to build a nonprofit dedicated to helping.

Gavin’s Gallop became the starting point, bringing the community together to raise awareness and funding. Today, Gavin’s Gifts continues to grow through the work of family, friends, and supporters who believe no family should face this journey alone.

  • Brandon Fink, Founder of Gavin's Gifts Nonprofit

    Brandon Fink

    Founder | Board President

    Brandon is Gavin’s uncle and a local business owner in Elizabethtown and Radcliff, Kentucky. An avid runner, Brandon started the idea of Gavin’s Gallop as a way to raise awareness and funding after seeing firsthand the devastation Batten Disease brings to families. His vision to turn a race into a nonprofit led to the creation of Gavin’s Gifts. Brandon continues to help guide the mission and long-term direction of the organization.

  • Kelly Fink Founder Board Member

    Kelly Fink

    Board Vice President | Operations

    Kelly is Gavin’s aunt and the sister of Gavin’s father. After watching her family search for answers and navigate the challenges of Batten Disease, she became deeply committed to supporting Gavin and other families facing the same diagnosis. Kelly and her husband Brandon have two children, Haley and Michael, who are Gavin’s cousins. She manages many of the operational details that keep Gavin’s Gifts moving forward.

    Kristina is Brandon’s sister and Gavin’s aunt. Having watched Gavin grow up, she felt called to help turn awareness into action. Kristina leads marketing, communications, sponsorship outreach, and event organization for Gavin’s Gifts. She is passionate about building partnerships that expand support for families facing Batten Disease.

    Andrew Lowe

    Board Member | Treasurer

    Andrew supports the financial oversight of Gavin’s Gifts. He and his wife Kristina have three daughters: Kennedy, Adeline, and Elizabeth. Andrew helps manage the nonprofit’s finances to ensure funds raised are responsibly directed toward supporting families affected by Batten Disease. He is committed to helping the organization grow its impact.

    Heather is a longtime family friend who has known Gavin since he was young. Seeing the impact of Batten Disease on the family inspired her to get involved and help spread awareness. Heather focuses on community outreach and helping share the mission of Gavin’s Gifts with a wider audience.
